Industrial Belt Conveyor for Wastewater Treatment Plant Sludge Transportation
Brief Description
A belt conveyor is a type of continuous conveying equipment that uses an endless conveyor belt as both the load-bearing and traction component. It drives the conveyor belt via friction between the drive pulley and the belt, so that materials can be delivered steadily and continuously from the loading end to the discharging end. It is characterized by large conveying capacity, long conveying distance and flexible layout.
Product Overview
In sewage treatment processes, belt conveyors are generally installed downstream of slag discharge equipment such as bar screens, grit chambers and filter presses to transfer, stockpile and load screenings, grit and dewatered sludge. This equipment is available in a wide range of specifications: short units of several meters are used for process connection inside workshops, while long-distance conveying units can be customized on request. The belt width, belt speed, conveyor belt type and drive assembly can be selected according to material properties, conveying capacity and on-site space conditions.

Working Principle
1.Loading
Screenings, sludge and other materials from the sewage system drop from the discharge outlets of bar screens and filter presses onto the loading end of the belt conveyor. Guided by the material‑guide chute, materials are centralized at the centre of the conveyor belt to prevent material deviation, sludge spillage and sewage leakage.
2.Conveying
The conveyor belt forms an endless closed loop wrapped around the head drive pulley and tail bend pulley. The tensioning device applies appropriate pre‑tension to the conveyor belt. The motor drives the drive pulley through the reducer. Driven by friction between the pulley and the belt’s inner surface, the drive pulley enables cyclic operation of the entire conveyor belt. The carrying section is supported by trough or flat idler sets, while the return section is supported by return idlers. Screenings and sludge on the belt travel continuously toward the discharge end.
3.Discharging
When sludge and screenings reach the head pulley, they are discharged under inertia and gravity through the head hopper into sludge bins or transport vehicles. For intermediate discharge along the conveying line, a plough discharger or tripper car may be fitted to the conveyor.
Key Design & Performance Features
1. Flexible Layout
Available in horizontal, inclined and combined configurations, with fixed‑type or mobile‑type models, suitable for short‑distance transfer of screenings and sludge within sewage workshops.
2. Design for Wet-material Conditions
Fitted with head cleaners and return‑run cleaners to strip sludge and screenings adhering to the belt surface. Pulleys are fitted with grooved lagging for humid operating conditions to avoid slippage.
3. Corrosion-resistant & Durable
The complete unit can undergo enhanced anti‑corrosion treatment; stainless‑steel construction is optional for corrosive environments. Wear‑resistant, moisture‑proof conveyor belts and anti‑corrosion idlers are adopted to withstand humid sewage‑plant conditions.
4. Safe & Reliable
Equipped with pull‑rope switches and belt‑misalignment switches. Backstops are optional for inclined installation scenarios. It supports continuous or intermittent operation to match the slag‑discharge cycle of sewage‑treatment processes.
5. Easy Maintenance
Components feature high interchangeability. The tensioning device compensates for belt elongation, facilitating on‑site inspection and part replacement.
Applications
1. Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plants
For transfer, stockpiling and truck‑loading of screenings intercepted by bar screens, grit from vortex grit chambers, and dewatered sludge from plate‑and‑frame or belt filter presses.
2. Industrial Wastewater Treatment Stations
Used for conveying screenings, scum and dewatered sludge produced during the pretreatment of wastewater from chemical, slaughtering, food‑processing and brewing industries.
3. Material Conditions
Suitable for semi‑solid screenings, grit and dewatered sludge. Supports both intermittent and continuous operation.
Sufficient on‑site space for installation foundations is required: fixed‑type units require concrete foundations, whereas mobile‑type units need flat, level ground.
